HAITIAN NATIONAL TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

The Haitian National Teachers Association is dedicated to promoting opportunity and equity in public education. We strive to provide accessible resources for all stakeholders, inclusive of immigrant students and their families, as well as members of impoverished communities. Our mission includes advocating for racial, ethnic, and gender equality.

Our Story

The Birth of the Haitian National Teachers Association (HNTA)

It started with a gap—one too wide to ignore.

For years, Haitian educators, parents, and students navigated an educational system that did not fully serve their needs. Haitian families, many new to the country, struggled to access vital school resources, language support, and equitable opportunities. Parents often found themselves left out of important discussions about their children’s education, while teachers saw firsthand the challenges Haitian students faced in classrooms that were not designed with them in mind.

A small but determined group of Haitian educators saw the problem not as a roadblock, but as a call to action. They were teachers, administrators, counselors, and community leaders—individuals who had spent years advocating for their students in silos, fighting battles alone. But they knew that real change would only come through unity.

At a small gathering in Miami HNTA was born. The founding members—led by passionate educators laid out their vision: to create an organization that would not just serve teachers, but also uplift students, empower parents, and advocate for Haitian families.

The Haitian National Teachers Association would be more than a professional network—it would be a movement, a force dedicated to:

  • Bridging the gap between Haitian families and the education system.

  • Empowering teachers with resources and training to better support their students.

  • Building a collective voice to advocate for educational equity and policy changes.

  • Providing mentorship and leadership opportunities for both educators and students.
